Transferring pictures from PC C driv to usb messa will lose properties

I have seen some discussions abut this but not from PC. Occasionally I get a photos will lose properties but all my photos are doing this. They are just simple jpeg and Tiff.

However need to get to publisher and have been pitting back into photo programme and save as usb. They actually do lose properties that publisher needs.

Now I got a hint about the usb drive from these posts. Mine may to be reset. It is scan disk. I have an application file saying there is an update ad a security file. I didn't run either as never came across a usb that had to be set.

I already have half my files in this usb. Should I try and run these ? I cant see why all my photos should get this message. Some Tiffs were too big for package but most are ok and no trouble backing up.
Publisher waiting for this so if someone can help I would appreciate it. I didn't relate to any of the other posts as they were music and videos. Just a simple gal with simple photos.
Cheers

PS I just saw this and it mans nothing to me. So can you please be more simplistic. "This happens NTFS file system to a FAT32 file system. The files are losing their NTFS properties."

Also just found this about scran drive " Select the “Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer” option in the AutoPlay dialog box." They were talking about pictures!!! Why autoplay dialog box?? . My task is harder because I have different folders with each chapter and divided into categories.

Hi Roanna and welcome to the Forum.
It seems like your USB drive is formatted to the file system "FAT32". Your "C" drive will be "NTFS" format so when you transfer a file from NFTS environment to FAT32 it looses it's prperties. To check this open Windows Explorer, in the left hand panel RIGHT click on your USB drive and click "Properties" in the window that opens. Then in the window that opens make sure the "General" tab is open and see what file system you have, see my example below. Then report back here. Meantime have you still got your photos on the C drive? In other words did you "Move" them to the USB drive of just copy them?

Hello Mitchell

My general tab is not like yours. I was wondering what all this language was about and went and got a new usb. I was told I had to format it. I have never done this. I have just got removable Fat 32. No I never copied them I moved them to the usb. I have just finished but lots of room for error as I have files and folders. I will have to carefully check tomorrow.

Mitchell I added another bit to my message but seems to be lost. it is midnight and have to go. But very interested in this. My usb is only 8 gb as it is all I could get.
Looking at the formats below I notice Tiff is not there. Many of my photos are large and Tiff. I couldn't get them into my package to change the size and can only scan in tiff.

I need to give lots of these to a publisher who is already peeved off with me for taking so long.
Many thanks. Hope to hear from you tonight/tomorrow.
regards

In what way is your "General Tab" different? Does it show the file system? What is a removable FAT 32? You need to format your USB stick to NTFS but as you only have 8GB capacity that won't take many of your TIFF files. Are the files still on your "C" drive? What do you mean by " I have just finished but lots of room for error as I have files and folders."
When you say "

USB

Hello Mitchell

At the time I emailed I had bee disconnected to the usb and had a look at it inn printers and devices. I just looked at it now and I have most of the tabs that you have. I still only have in the general tab
In this general tab I have Type : removable disk and File system = Fat 32 and it also shows how much I have used and I haven't used much space so I still have three quarters of room left and I have finished.

What I meant by lot of errors is that I had to place them in major file and sub files. It I not just pictures. But that doesnt matter. I have finished now. So in the future I have to format at NFTS. When I use this setting will I be able to copy all my files over in one action like I would normally do. That is send all my folders over in on action. Occassionly when I do this I do get messages that some files will lose properties. With NFTS this will not happen I presume. I have now formatted the first usb I used and I see now the formatting difference. When did all this change?

Now because of the time difference can you tell me all I need to know as I have to deliver this. I cannot start again but I have never had to format a usb stick.. I have a external hard drive for backing up. I also use USBs.

using Windows 764 bit. Now to add to my woes my keyboard has run amok and I have taken ages to type this.I hope I have answered all you questions.
Thanks very much for all for your help on this. I didn't realise other posts on this related to me as no one said you actually said you have to format the usb, and I had no idea hat they were talking about.

Please forgive tying as keyboard impossible. I have answered this Mitchell. But I cannot get my usb to work now. I plugged it in earlier and got properties. I can see It in devices but cannot get it to work yet it says it is ok. I also have to do a fix before I can use it.t. I cannot give it to my publisher like this. I will need to copy it over t another reformatted disc. Can you please advise. I wil repost to see if an Australian can answer in case you are asleep!!

First off try your USB stick in another USB port!
I am a bit confused as to what you are trying to do. How many files do you need to load onto the USB stick? If a new USB stick is formatted to FAT 32 then you need to format it to NFTS. To do this just put the stick into a USB port on your PC and open Windows Explorer. Right click on the USB drive and choose "Format" in the window that opens. Then select NFTS in the selection box. This will ERASE all of the data on the stick.
Just to put me in the picture, I understand you need to send these files to a "Publisher" Have you done this before as I am curious to know why they want the properties of each file. I ask this because some of them seem to be scanned images? Properties will only show the scanning details not the properties of the original picture that was scanned.

Hello Mitchell

That old stick is dead. I tried everything and I still would have had to erase it so I did what I should have done before as wasted a lot of time and formatted a new one and everything is fine. Took just a couple of hours to arrange into folders etc. Took 3 days to do it the other way. I did of course reformat it to NFTS. Yes the scanned documents are from original photos so very important. But that is not the point. The point was I didn't know that usb sticks had to be formatted. I have never done it before. Now I know and things are good. No use worrying about the other one and what happened I have put it in the bin!!

Thank you for putting me right on this. As I said I saw this but had no idea it related to formatting the disk I have never done it before. Next time I will use their download facility. Being pushed for this.
Thanks very much and keyboard fixed too!
