well its true that the system uses the 3.5mm (pretty sure they arent 2.5mm ones, never had a mobo that uses 2.5 ones) jack, tho it seems like too much annoyance to use extensions as lve found swapping and changing damages the inner connector (had a PC front panel connector just fall apart before through constant connecting and disconnecting).

so lve tended to opt for occasionally using headphones or using usb ones.

Hmm are you sure they are 3.5 jacks because if I am not badly mistaken that size is usually reserved for larger equipment such as electric guitars and their amps - they are reasonably big. The ones on the back of the mobo should be 2.5 about twice the thickness of two pencil leads see pic

from what lve seen 2.5mm are the really small ones (the crappy size my non-standard mp3 player uses) 3.5mm for standard connectors and the large ones are 1/4".

lve had to order all three types over the past year, l havent had any issues ordering them based on those sizes. (then again it could be that metric and imperial thing, tho l always thought that was more of a US/UK thing lol).

Yep you're right timeless my mistake

Edit so I meant to ask which size does the system use as those quarter inch ones I remember were the standard thing when I was a young fellow and messed in audio electronics then we used vacuum tubes (valves as they were commonly known) when I lived in the UK - many moons ago (- originally from Sussex)

just standard 3.5mm all l connect is my 5.1 speakers.. thankfully lm starting to get use out of them but lm really hoping l manage to get that external card lm bidding on.. mainly because lm starting to notice that the audio is messing around on files lm watching.. it could just be the x64 bit ffdshow audio codecs.. but lm hoping whatever l get can upmix so l can return to the LAV codec which seems to run better for some reason.

Hmm hope so just as a matter of curiosity what card are you bidding on - EBay?? if so be careful
That Asus card/s I mentioned are only $35 or $50 so I reckon around 20 - 30 pounds and probably less on Amazon which we don't have out here my brother in Wiltshire buys a fair bit from them. EBay as long as the product is brand new maybe even less.

the item lm bidding on says its an unwanted unused gift, and if l managed to obtain it for less than a fiver its not as tho lve lost much if its a lemon, that said the user has 100% seller feedback and sold quite a bit so thought ld chance it.. not planning on spending more than a fiver anyways. always been pretty careful with electronics bidding..

(on a completely unrelated note finally got my new keyboard, as my old one was being temperamental, its taking a bit of getting used to the new style lol, one or two keys have changed places, and the LED is going to take some getting used to lol.. only got this one due to it matching my mouse rofl.. the only piece of hardware left that doesnt match my all black pc/monitor etc is my external sound card lmao).

Hello timeless (name would be nice - old fellow so not trying to woo you LOL!!) Well my friend you probably will get lucky in that case and like you say a fiver is neither here nor there eh?

lol thats what l love about the net, unless you say something you could be either sex rofl.

but alas lm male, l never went out of my way to match things, originally the mouse was only obtained because it had the double click button and it was the cheapest.. l had another one which was a mico one with the extra button but wanted something more man hand sized lol. tho the keyboard l thought it would be amusing to have one that lit up like my mouse for amusement (with the added addition of some multimedia buttons l missed having, only annoyance at present is getting used to the slight changes some keys size and the different location of the hash key, so lm currently hitting it instead of backspace plus the space bar is slightly smaller, gimme a few weeks and l'll be typing like a pro again).

tho l am pretty chuffed at my recent upgrade, compared to my no frills case before my current one looks pretty nice :) tho if l manage to obtain the new sound card then l can go with the all black motif lve got going with the rest of the hardware.

Oopps sorry mate the Avatar threw me

Hmm I know what you mean out here we have the US layout keyboard which I personally prefer to that great chunky Enter key at right. Right now I have the Microsoft Sidewinder x6 and a Gigabyte G6900X mouse both which are backlit. My other good board (I haves several, machines now) is the Microsoft Sidewinder x4 and for Microsoft products are simply the bees knees. They are both wired and the only problem now is that you cannot get the Sidewinder x6 or x4 easily at all if at all so I am hoping they will last me out. See pics
