weird playback issue.

hoping this is the right forum..

lve noticed a few files over the years where the voices were barely audible yet the background music was pretty loud.. this has been an issue with and without my headphones (at least today on a certain file).

l could hear the voice track through my 5.1 speakers, but seeing as peeps are off to bed now and the file lm watching is quite loud (its making good use of my sub) l popped in earphones and the voices became non-existent.

now l have been playing around with the settings and tried both WMP and MPC-HC both seem to suffer from the same issue with one exception.. when l change the mixer settings in ffdshow audio decoder to 2.0 Stereo with WMP l get normalised audio, whereas when l do the same setting on MPC-HC there it makes no difference.

Hello timeless dos the Blaster come with a software that has a driver? and a GUI where you can adjust the frequencies?? My Asus Xonar DG (Xonar DG | Sound Cards | ASUS Australia - I think it has been superceded but the replacement one is just as good) has one where I can adjust the environment and frequencies via a slide equaliser and I keep an icon on my taskbar for ease of use .

Now the Asus is nor expensive and very easy set up so would you consider using it instead??

My external set up is Logitec Z505 and I daren't have it anything like three quarters volume because it is so loud but I do like experimenting with it see pic

while the issue hasnt been solved as of yet.. l guess l can currently live with the odd annoying file, but l did find that switching the settings in the ffdshow audio settings within mixer section to 2.0 stereo resolved the issue in as far as the audio was less messed up (l could hear the voices better and the background sound wasnt overpowering it) however the weird part is that it was only on Windows Media Player that the voices part of the file l was playing were more audible, however when using MPC-HC to watch the file it made no difference, the voices were barely audible but the background sound was much louder..

it wasnt as bad playing through the speakers under my normal 5 channel settings on ffdshow however with earphones (which l occasionally connect when watching stuff over night) it was impossible to hear anything said over the background.

Hmm sounds (no pun) like it is a software issue to me but I am no expert and while you have spent a good deal of money on that I would still look at the option I linked. The Logitec I mentioned is more than enough for me in my 4x4 metre comp room and I am a very fussy when it comes to audio and for around $130 a simple fix but it is your budget of course.
Oh the Xonar DG I can now get updated and has been replaced by this actually a better unit for $20 and I am getting one for my next build https://www.pccasegear.com/products/...asus-xonar-dgx

while l do like a good sound card, l tend to move between PC and laptop, so external has been what lve opted for seeing as it saves digging round the back of the PC, that coupled with the fact the laptop doesnt have the connectivity for 5.1s

so the soundblaster live external did the job for me.. lm currently bidding on a newer external sound card which looks to have Win7 support (unlike my current, otherwise ld have found it easier.. because l could have turned CMSS on).

that said, l found out my codecs were using the 64bit version of MPC-HC, so l managed to get the sound to fill other speakers, tho l think if lm able to obtain the external sound card lm bidding on which is a creative as well then l'll be happier as it may do things much better than the codecs will.

truth be told ld much prefer an internal sound card, but l cant keep messing around behind the PC when l want to transfer my audio over to the laptop, so to be honest its not so much the hardware, its the logistics of all the cabling and a small room that make it annoying so l opt for the middle ground, that said the external sound card does produce some pretty nice sound, so it will be interesting to see how well the possible new one fares, given that lm not outbid that is.

Well timeless I am only suggesting here and that is to get a cable that has a plug and socket for the desktop - in other words an extension cable for the desktop card and maybe one for the laptop so that you just swap as needed - would save having to rummage around behind the desktop. Otherwise if the laptop , desktop, and sound system all have sockets then a simple jack plug to jack plug cable for each so that you can just plug which source you wanted into the system.
Cheap as chips I should imagine
I suppose if you were like me and I am a fiddler I would rig up a board so that I could plug each in to the board and use a switching system in the board (not hard with a double throw switch) to go from the desktop and the laptop independently. So in that case the system would stay plugged into the board and the switch thrown to the side for which source you required

Ah I thought you were hooking up with the normal 2.5 jack plugs as you see on the back of the mobo You could still use extension USB cables though
