    Video Freeze during playback

Hello all, I have had problems with continued freezing and crashing during Avi., xvid, divx, and now problems with playback of recorded media. It occurs in Media Center, VLC, WMP, DIVX. I had this same problem with vista home 32 bit and couldn't elicit support since Windows 7 32 bit was coming out soon.

    Solutions I have tried:
    Reinstalling OS fresh
Latest Drivers from Nvidia 4.0.100.1190 Last upgrade
Upgrade Video card from Nvidia 8800 Onboard Video to 9400 GT card
I have turning off indexing on HD
Turning off certain services and since have reinstalled
Installed very little other than media, (Pics, music)

Please help, I shelled out over a hundred for Vista and I don't want to make the same mistake if Windows 7 is going to have the same problems. Thanks, Jake

How about updating the bios for your machine if a newer version than what is currently installed is available? It's a good idea in any case and maybe it would help fix this issue.

Also, it appears you are using a fairly early release candidate version of W7. Perhaps installing the RTM final version would improve the situation. You don't have to activate it with a purchased key for 120 days (using the 3, 30 day rearms), so you would have some time to play around with it and see if you could get it working properly before having buy anything. Of course you would have to find a good copy somewhere to download but that shouldn't be too hard.

Another approach might be to install some high quality third party codecs such as Shark007's Win 7 codecs. Simply installing them and using the default settings might help. And it it doesn't, you can also you can play around with changing some settings with the settings app (see screenshot) that comes with the codec pack to see if you can improve the situation that way.

All of these approaches can and should be tried, imo.

I have been having the exact same problem for over a year now. I also tried reinstalling my Vista operating system and it did not fix the problem. I also get programs saying "Not responding" all the time, especially AOL. I don't want to buy the new windows 7 if the same thing is going to happen. Please let us know if you figure out the problem.
