Set Windows Media Player 12 as default via script or registry?

    Hello all,

I am looking to set Windows Player 12 as the default video player in Windows 7, but for multiple users. Basically I ran into an issue where users had problems viewing non embedded link to .mp4 formats. The fix I found is to go into "Set Program Access and Computer Defaults" and chose Windows Media Player and click ok. Even though all the users only had Windows Media player already and it was the default to begin with. Basically selecting this option reset Windows Media player and it fixed the issue.

Now, my problem is I need to scale this fix to hundreds of users. I looked and looked only and can't seem to find a registry or a script that could do this. So I am looking for help here, any one know of a way to do this via a script or a registry setting that I can force this setting?

    Thank you.

A Group policy setting should do the trick. See HERE.
