Deleted music but no free space showing

Hi,,I deleted about 70 GB of music files ,did a delete but no move to recycle bin,but I do not see the freed up disk space,,went into disk cleanup but it doesn't show there.

Do I need to do a defrag in order to get that freed up space?

Did a search for any music on my system but nothing shows. Will the space just be overwritten?

    Confused

    Hi there
after emptying the recycle bin examine your disks with this little proggy.

Screendump also shown -- great app for mapping disks

    Cheers

When you delete files, (unless you hold down the shift key while deleting), they get added to the recycle bin automatically. So they are still taking up space on your drive. You have to empty the recycle bin to reclaim the space. Right click on the recycle bin and you will see an option to empty it. Or just open the recycle bin and you will see an option to empty it.

True, but 70GB? I'm sure you will get the "There are too many files to delete to fit in tho the recycle bin, would like to delete them straight away?" message.

NOTE: Quote is not the exact message. Just a revised version.
    NOTE1: I'm not on my W7 PC atm, so i can't check

I don't know but I wouldn't be surprised if, in 7, it depended on the size of the hard drive and available space as to how much data the recycle bin will accommodate before giving that message.

I deleted them with no delete to recycle bin because ,as stated above ,there were to many files,so there was nothing to empty from the recycle .Bin,

But it is solved,I just ran a chk dsk and that cleaned up the space so it now shows up.

    Thanks for the suggestions.:)

I thought you're not supposed to touch $RECYCLE.BIN.

    Can't find $RECYCLE.BIN
