Windows 7: I've locked myself out of all my mp3, help please

After moving my mp3s folder from one drive to another, I can now no longer access them at all. The directory has a padlock on it but I can get into it but then not into any of the child directories where all the files are.



I can't change any of the directories permissions as I don't have permission from either my user account or the admin account. I tried accessing them to copy elsewhere via an admin run command prompt and despite saying for every file of the batch I tried 'access denied' the did actually copy to where I want so I could access them.

That's a workaround though and a last resort. Any ideas on how I might fix this problem without resorting to that?

Take ownership of the parent folder.

Then change the permissions by right clicking on it and going to security tab.

I went to my friends place and wanted to play some music from my hard drive, and it wouldn't let me access it !
Is there a way to stop Win 7 from automatically doing that in the future ?
Or has running that little script already done that for me ?

This issue has been present from the days of NT running on NTFS drives and is due to the fact that the permissions are written directly to the files and folders and therefore these permissions are retained after a new OS is installed.

We may allocate the same user name to the new system as the old but the number that windows uses will be different.

The re-assignment of permissions as described above only has to be performed once, after each OS re-install
