WMP12 - Files Moved Not Reflected in Libray

    Summary of Issue:
Music files move from local drive to server are not updated with new file path.

    The Details:

I have my music files on my PC, all 35K are showing in my WMP12 Library. I want to move these files off my PC and onto my new home server (running Windows Home Server). I've done this process with my Photos and Videos, no problems.

However, after I moved my Music files I found that only 1/3 of the files were updated in the Music Library in WMP12 (35K in the directories, Library only showed 11K). I tried many different solutions to fix the problem, but could not get all the files to be reflected in the Library.

Frustrated, I put everything back they way it was and let the Library rebuild. I'm back with the 35K song titles in Library. I then tried to move just a small number of files to see how the system would reflect the change. I moved 9 songs from my "C" drive and onto the home server. The 9 songs, even though they are no longer on my local drive are not removed from the Library (still show with local drive path). I did manage my Library settings and added the server location to the Music library (in same way I did my photo and video files).

I can't think of anything I've done different in how I moved my photo and video files, versus what I'm doing for the music files. However, those are fine and not a concern. What I'm looking for is for any suggestion as to how to get the moved music files to update in the Library?

Update: Just noticed that if after I move the files if I "Play" the file the location is updated to reflect the HPWHS server. I also found that if I delete the file from the library and move to the server the Library does not check that location and never adds the file. However, if I delete file from library and leave on local drive it is added back within a minute. So question is why Library does not update based on the server files?

PERSISTENCE HAS PREVAILED: Problem solved.... I was going to delete this message but thought maybe it would have some value to anyone else who finds similar issue. I had checked my "Homegroup" settings and noticed that "MUSIC" was not checked in the "Shared libraries and printers" (not sure why or how). But I checked the box and I can now move my files to the server and the path is updated.

You must mean this one. I guess those setttings work as designed then.
Remember that the library files only point to the actual file so if you needed to delate a music file from the library you would need to go into "my music" and delate the file from there. :)

Doesn't makes sense to me. The MP3's were able to be added to the WMP Library and streamed when they were on my desktop. When I put on my server WPM Library refused to see the files. With those on my server it shouldn't have any bearing on if they files are shared, should it (the Server controls that). I would have expected that my MP3's wouldn't have been shared when they were on my desktop drive - would certainly made this easier to track down and resolve.
