Windows 7: Video Capture issues

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit running, and I am trying to do some video capture from my Sony Digital 8 Video Camera (DCR-TRV103 NTSC) via Firewire. In the "Old Days" I would just connect it to the port on the computer, launch the Windows Video program, and capture away. With Windows 7, I have been not very successful with this.

First off, not sure if the computer see's the unit, so there is a big "IF" if the unit works or is seen by Windows 7. So that started me thing down another route. What about running a virtual session of XP on the unit. Now I remember some time back, that there was not USB support with this, but I believe that has been fixed. But I have never seen anything regarding Firewire. Does anyone know if this is possible (to link the firewire to the virtual XP session)? Does anyone also know of a freeware program that will allow video capture that runs in Windows 7 x64?

I guess my other alternative is to dual boot into XP, but I really would like to avoid doing that.

One question though, when I look at the page, it appears that most are just converting tools. Is there one that has an actual capture tool in it? That is what I am mostly interested in. Capturing the video. I have software to convert it to DVD, etc.
