Windows media player no longer works

Hi,

Any time i try to open windows media player, it freezes. If i open a movie, the movie will start, and play, but the entire player is frozen. cant drag it anywhere, pause, or click on anything. Once this has happened, the computer will no longer be able to restart and/or shutdown by itself. It will hang after loging off. I cant even stop the wmplayer.exe *32 service. It will kill the GUI, but the service is still running/ 0 cpu usage. it does this even if i open WMP, with no song/video.

i have uninstalled/reinstalled it from windows features. CHKDSK auto fix and scan sectors as well w/out errors. Cant find an install package from microsoft, most likly due to to coming with the OS. Any other ideas? Deleting reg entries and/or files? In any case, I only have the official DIVX codec installed.

On a side note: I was thinking this was somehow related to ATI CAT 9.12, so i uninstalled it, and cleaned files with driver sweeper. At first that fixed the issues, reinstalled the drivers and it worked fine for a few days. Now all over again and uninstalling didnt fix it this time. I will try again though. Any ideas? Thanks people!

Just as long as your problem is solved. S.R. or the more orthodox method, resolution of the problem is all that matters

at the time of last message, issue was not resolved. Altho, my mistake was i believe, is that i did not restart computer after the DLL utility. Restart, and now it seems to be working fine. If i have any more issues with this i will post back. THANKS!!!

Well, issue is still there. Watched a few episodes of NCIS, then on one, it just reoccured! OMG!

Going to try safe mode in a moment, see if maybe it does it in there...idk. Off to the testing.
