JPGs Not Visable? Saved But Missing From Views

I am new to WIN7 and TOTALLY confused! I am sooooo tempted to just reinstall XP I can't stand it! I admit I've yet to give WIN7 a chance so - I'm here seeking knowledge.

Although I've recently saved about (4) four .jpg files to a new folder on my laptop they do not appear? I tried dowloading & saving one of these files to the desktop and it does not appear there either .... BUT ... when I tried downloading the files again, they were shown as already being in the folder and on the desktop??

Hopefully when you're done laughing someone can tell me two key things ...

1st: what setting needs to be changed to correct this?
2nd: Personal recommendation on the "best" book out there on Windows 7 and its little quirks!

    Many Thanks,
    Irish

    Knowledge Needed - Recommendations Wanted

    New to WIN7.

Can not say I'm enjoying the experience much

Just posted about a bizzare problem I'm having with .jpg files to the graphics/images forum. I've taken all the "normal" steps to resolve that problem yet .... I (and the .jpgs) remain lost!

Thing is, what had been "normal" in the WIN 98- WIN2000 - WIN XP environments does not appear to even apply to WIN7.

So question is ... what are your recommendations for the best desk reference/best book/best tutorials? Aside from/in addition to those posted here by ?Brink?

    Thanks for your help!!

    Irish Welcome to Seven Forums
What version of Windows 7 do you have installed?

Google by far. You will be hard-pressed to find a book that will cover all situations. Just Google if you need something, or post here if you want a quick reply.

    Irishred,

    One step at a time.

Do you see the folder where you stored the files?

Can you with the Explorer, navigate to the folder?

Is the folder on your Desktop? or somewhere else?

What is the path to the folder?

Oh yes, if you want to create a folder on the desktop, then:
LEFT (not right) CLICK on an empty spot on the Desktop,
Hold down CTRL and SHIFT keys and tap the N key.
This will create a "New Folder" on your Desktop to which you probably want to give a meaningful name.
