One other possibility is that your security program does extensive checking during the write. Put the CD burning program on the exclusion list of the security program or make a quick test turning the security program off.
Interesting thought. I'm running MSE and that is a differance from the RC & Beta. I'll give it a try. One would have thought MSE would not be that invasive but we shall see.
    Thanks.

Hmm, too bad. The thought had occured to me because the same MSE had blocked one of my (really innocent) programs that I had been using for years. Booting that program took 5 minutes, but after I put it on the "Excluded files and locations" list, it loaded instantly.
The only other thing I can suggest is to try using another burning program - e.g. DVD Flick for videos.

To update you I was burning a disc @ the time I turned MSE off so perhaps it's possible that your idea would work once the burn is done. I do not want to lose anymore discs so I am letting this one finish then I will try that and run the HD Tune tool Seeker gave me & let you know.
A few other things that bother me that you might know of is : What happened to the burn disc as usb media? I asked this earlier in the thread but it warrants repeating. In 7 Beta and RC I could (but only using 7 64bit) use a dvdr as I would a dvdrw. I did this a lot. Great feature. Do you know if MS crippled this in the final build?

Oh re your DVD Flick it looks the same as imgburner (which I have used & loved in the past ) plus thing is I dont care if these discs play on a dvd player or console. I just want them backed up for myself. For my network.
lol. Sorry that was a lot. Answer anytime .
    Thanks for listening,
    J

Sorry, but I have no clue. I hardly ever use DVDs except for the recovery program of the imaging programs (Macrium and Ghost). I backup everything to one of my 6 external disks.

I hear ya. My seagate external just went down thus the disc b/u FTR-Mse did not solve the issue on either laptops. This is really strange. Think I shall grab a drink or 3 & open a new thread re the usb q. Have a good one.
