WMP12 to WMP11

So, I've been reading a lot about how to turn WMP12 to WMP11 to get the taskbar player back. I've heard mixed results where if it does work, its sluggish or the player does not go away when WMP is closed, etc.

Is it possible to uninstall WMP 12 and install WMP11? Windows website says WMP11 is compatible with both 32bit and 64bit Windows 7. Do this without having to "take ownership" and delete registry files, etc. What about WMP11 for XP 64 Proffessional?

Hello Iskortch, Welcome to SF,

I think its really a bad idea to do that because it have help lot of them you got messed up by doing so finally ended up in Repair install. Its better to stay with WMP 12. Its just my opinion.

Good Luck,

I would either stick with WMP12, or if you don't like it, try something completely different. Depends on what you use WMP for, I suppose.

My WMP11 stopped cooperating with me on my old XP machine, so I switched to MediaMonkey. MM is audio-only, which suited me because that old computer struggled with video anyways. Now that I have a computer that does video well, I do use WMP12 for watching video, but I'm still more comfortable with MM for my music and audio podcasts.

There are other options though, if you can't adapt to WMP12's differences from WMP11. Again, which alternative depends on what you'd be using it for. But I agree with Capt. Jack that downgrading might not be the best option.

Thanks!

Thanks for your input guys, I appreciate it. I agree, I probably should not mess with downgrading, etc.

To get taskbar player, you don't need downgrade, you just need to copy one file to WMP folder

Have banged this thread in here as we don't seem to have a WMP section and to me MCE is different from WMP. Anyone found how to change the colour of the media player from the standard shades of blue? If so how? PS - I don't want to change skins, just colours.

Creating a workaround to the MS lockout of WMP11 installers on Win 7
Has anyone found a way to install windows media player 11 onto windows 7? I do not like how heavy handed WMP12 is with libraries (as i went in to my registery and deleted any key referencing them) and while WMP 12 doesnt produce any errors or problems with my registery modifications. I find...

Help downgrading from WMP12 to WMP11
I tried the WMP12 and I prefer the 11 for UI and that stuff but when I downgrade I'd like to keep my codecs (Default WMP12: AAC, MOV, MP4, etc & Win7Codecs from Shark007) and my thumbnails, I don't know if they both will use the same codecs I'm kinda noob in this. Can someone tell me how to keep...

Hi everyone, I got a hard question (well, at least I believe it is). When I plug my usb headset into my computer it automatically becomes the default/standard device - which is fine. When I play music, play games all the sound comes out of my headset. But lets say I want the music to be played...

Botched downgrade to WMP11.
As the title says, I tried downgrading to WMP 11 and everything went tits up, I guess I've got a mix of WMP 11 and WMP 12 files as well as a registry entry that I was told to edit. I've ran the SFC file checker thing and I'm still getting nothing. It's not a disaster as I am running Itunes but...
