WMP12 to WMP11

So, I've been reading a lot about how to turn WMP12 to WMP11 to get the taskbar player back. I've heard mixed results where if it does work, its sluggish or the player does not go away when WMP is closed, etc.

Is it possible to uninstall WMP 12 and install WMP11? Windows website says WMP11 is compatible with both 32bit and 64bit Windows 7. Do this without having to "take ownership" and delete registry files, etc. What about WMP11 for XP 64 Proffessional?

Hello Iskortch, Welcome to SF,

I think its really a bad idea to do that because it have help lot of them you got messed up by doing so finally ended up in Repair install. Its better to stay with WMP 12. Its just my opinion.

Good Luck,

I would either stick with WMP12, or if you don't like it, try something completely different. Depends on what you use WMP for, I suppose.

My WMP11 stopped cooperating with me on my old XP machine, so I switched to MediaMonkey. MM is audio-only, which suited me because that old computer struggled with video anyways. Now that I have a computer that does video well, I do use WMP12 for watching video, but I'm still more comfortable with MM for my music and audio podcasts.

There are other options though, if you can't adapt to WMP12's differences from WMP11. Again, which alternative depends on what you'd be using it for. But I agree with Capt. Jack that downgrading might not be the best option.

Thanks!

Thanks for your input guys, I appreciate it. I agree, I probably should not mess with downgrading, etc.

To get taskbar player, you don't need downgrade, you just need to copy one file to WMP folder
