Windows media player is excellent for music but I prefer thekmplayer for movies.
I used to use WMP but I switched to iTunes a while back. I just love the interface, and the built-in store is also nice.
I have tried a lot of media players and was a loyal Winamp user since 1997 until I downloaded Mediamonkey recently. It is really the best app for organizing large libraries out of all the others I have tried. I don't see myself going back to Winamp........it's been real.
Here is a screenshot.
I might have kinda 2500 albums on my drives so the organizing the library thing is only a marketing one.
Oddly, when it comes to media player I never read comments about the sound quality when this has to be the first significant thing... Living in a small appartment and not having a HiFi I only use my desktop (or my laptop) to listen to music.
With a nice set of 5.1 soundcard and HP, I use QCD 4.51 (the new version with media library being pointless) with some improvment: MAD plug-in in input, izotope ozone as the DSP (one of the best one so far) and on top of it another level of sound processing with SRS sandbox. Believe me or not, I achieve here nearly the same thing that a HIFi system at the thenth of the price. QCD offers great skins too and use all plug-ins from winamp... So...
I use Windows Media Player 12.
I use winamp for my music only with DFX audio enhancer plug-in
