What program are you using to burn the DVD?

"vlc media" is a media player it is not a DVD authoring tool which is what you need to produce the Video and Audio folders that are standard for a DVD movie. This is what plays in all the usual commercial DVD players that play through your TV. To explain best take any commercial DVD, put it in your PC drive, go to Computer right click on your DVD drive and click "Open". You will see two Foders VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS. This is what you must produce to have your movies play in a DVD player (Unless your player happens to suport MPEG but that's another story).
Win 7 does not come with Windows Movie Maker now but you can download tha latest version from Microsoft here:
Setting up Microsoft's Windows Movie Maker on Windows 7
A fairly big learning curve if you are new to it.

Hope this helps

The easiest video burning tool is ConvertXtoDVD . Just drag the video file and drop in the window ...

But it is not free.
If trying nero, use nero vision .
