Hello, this is my first time here so please excuse if I have posted in the wrong place. I hope I can receive some help with my problem.

I have just bought a new PC with Windows 7 installed. My previous PC had XP. I am an avid hillwalker and photo taker (Scottish Highlands) so this is pretty serious to me. I cannot get Windows 7 to accept the photos from my camera (Olympus u Tough 6000). With XP it was no problem. I confess that I know next to nothing about computers so I am at a disadvantage to even understand why this is happening. I take a picture - plug my camera into the USB port on the computer - press load - I get a beepbeep sound - nothing happens. No photo makes it to the PC.. ..
Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated !

    Welcome paulnh,

When you first got your camera & connected to your XP computer, did the camera come with a software disc for photo programs & drivers? You may have to install this on the Win7 computer.

First of all, you may need a picture manager in order to import pictures. Normally you don't, but you never know.

Second, once the camera is plugged into the computer via USB, check to see that it shows being connected. You should be able to see in the Explorer "Computer" menu and or in the remove usb hardware systray icon. If it's showing up then you're good.

Now select PC on the camera screen and hit ok. You should be able to import your pictures.

If you want a program to use with it, try Windows Live Photo Gallery. If using WLPG, plugging in the camera should open the program automatically. Once you see it show up in WLPG or Computer you should be able to choose whether to import and delete, save originals or whatever else. That happens after you select the PC and ok buttons via the camera.

You may need to get a card reader to get that working.

Thank you Doc. Yes - the Olympus came with a photo shop disc called 'Olympus Master 2' and another disc that was an 'Instruction manual in pdf format' and 'Adobe Reader Installer (for WIndows Only)'. Just the two discs. I never used them on XP preferring to work directly through my PC and editing photos with a program called "ZoomBrowser Ex 6.1.1". However; when I got this new system and I found that the photos would not go directly to my PC I downloaded the 'Olympus Master 2' disc in the hopes that that would resolve the issue - it didn't. I have not downloaded the 'instruction manual disc with the adobe reader file'. So. Other than that, I don't know what to say, except yes, "The Future is What YOu Make It".

notsograymatter: I cant get past the second part of your suggestion. Once I have plugged the camera into the USB port and I get the beepbeep sound I cannot find any indication that the pictures have gone anywhere - I have looked and looked - everywhere.

chev65: You are the second person today to tell me to get a card reader and I think I will hit the town tomorrow and pick one up. I don't know how that is going to bypass the problem, but I am game to give it a try.

If your computer won't take cards you can get a little usb card reader that looks like a little candy bar with a slot in it and they just plug into your USB and start unloading (ebay). Contact Olympus to see if they have a patch or new driver for system 7. Also look for free picture importing software the will work with system 7. Many cameras have trouble with system 7 but if you have a card it should bypass those problems. I use the little bar type reader the just plugs into your USB port and quickly loads. (Cheap)

I was going to say; go to you control panel>autoplay, and make sure import with windows is selected.

That was one of the recommendations I had already tried - it didn't solve the problem.
