COM Surrogate error

I've been getting that error when opening some of my video folders when I installed a codec package. I uninstalled it, but still have the eror. Anyone know a solution to this? I'm using Windows 7 64bit.

Read this article & responses:

Fix for COM Surrogate Has Stopped Working Error in Vista - How-To Geek

Possible Fixes:

Update/Uninstall DivX
Update/Uninstall Nero
Use MMCompView to disable codecs http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/mmview.html
Uninstall all Codecs
Install newer FFDShow codec http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/
Disable Thumbnail Previews http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...ista-explorer/

My recommendation is to try the MMCompView solution, if disabling all installed codecs works then you'll be able to add them back one by one until you find the culprit.

If that doesn't work, try installing newer codecs via a trusted codec pack like K-Lite, CCCP or Sharks.

com surrogate

The only thing that seems to work for me is I have to disable all thumbnail views of everything in control panel, folder options, view, do not show thumbnails, and then win 7 runs fine. Enable thumbnail viewing along with name and get the error message about the com surrogate crashing constantly and after so many explorer needs to re-start.

Has there been a fix to not having to disable the thumbnails because I work with a great deal of pictures and it really is an issue not to be able to see them when picking out a folder and pick as needed in the folder when you have thousands and they are numbered. Right now have to turn on the picture viewer with microsoft and then scroll through all of them which is a major waste of time. Running 32 bit version.

I play everything with either VLC media player version 1.0.5 which uses a bunch of different codecs or the Windows player with no issues so never even thought to upgrade or install any new codecs. Should I uninstall VLC or load another set of codecs into the machine? Thanks for your help!!!!
