Which video codecs do I need to install?

I have just re-installed Windows XP, but now cannot watch any videos because of missing codecs. Anyone knows what are the ones necessary? Any recommended codec pack, or is it better to download and install each one separately?

TIA

I have always used Windows Essentials Codec Pack, I have not had any problems with it.

I know, but I needed advice about video codecs, and this forum has been a very helpful place for me so far about other computer problems(as I'm preparing my PC for Windows 7) so I posted this thread here.

Video Codecs
I've noticed that some video files I play don't have sound when playing through Windows Media Player, and some do. Even though they appear to be the exact same file, .avi, with all the same settings. Just wondering if anyone had a similar issue to this, and if they had found a fix or the proper...
