Which video codecs do I need to install?

I have just re-installed Windows XP, but now cannot watch any videos because of missing codecs. Anyone knows what are the ones necessary? Any recommended codec pack, or is it better to download and install each one separately?

    TIA

I have always used Windows Essentials Codec Pack, I have not had any problems with it.

If you are using Windows XP it looks like you are in the wrong Forum. This Forum is for Windows 7!

I know, but I needed advice about video codecs, and this forum has been a very helpful place for me so far about other computer problems(as I'm preparing my PC for Windows 7) so I posted this thread here.
