Cannot run restored .pvm files on new Windows 7 machine

I restored several PhotoShop files (.pvm) to a new HP computer running Windows 7. After I re installed PhotoShop 4.0, it couldn't read the .pvm files. Answers on web to problem centered on cleaning the registry, but many posts on this forum strongly warn against that. Any ideas?

I'm a little confused on this. Photoshop extensions are psd, right? The only thing I'm familiar with pvm is parallel virtual machines. Is pvm really an Adobe extension?

Are those by any chance HP Photosmart Essential Photo Album files?

That's exactly what they are. While PhotoShop usually generates .psd files, perhaps the backup program put them in .pvm format. I really don't know how they were generated.

Maybe you need to reinstall Photosmart Essential, then open it up with that program:

I did re-install Photoshop 4. That was how I found it wouldn't open .pvm files.

With respect, the link was for Photo Creations, NOT Photoshop 4.

Oops! My mistake. Sorry! I'll try the HP Photo Creations. Thanks.
