How do I get videos to play on my iPhone (iTunes) ?

Window7, iPhone (new), iTunes (latest - v9.1.1.12)

Hi

How do I get videos to play on my iPhone?

I cant even get my video (which is about 700MB) to load into iTunes?

The original was in .AVI format, but when I went:
File ==>"Add file to library", absolutely nothing happened.

So I then managed to convert it to .MP4 format (using a free utility called iWisoft Free Video Converter). But again when I tried to get iTunes to load it into the library, nothing happens.

Is there some better way to get videos to play on my iPhone, other than via iTunes? One problem is that although my Windows can SEE the iPhone device, I cant even get my windows to copy files of any sort onto my iPhone!

- Any thoughts?

With thanks

You have 2 problems:
1) iPhone's suck
2) iTunes sucks even more

Agreed!

However sadly our company is developing an iPhones App so I am being *forced* to use one.

Is there no software that I can download onto my iPhone that gets around the problem? Or does Apple control absolutely everthing that happens on my iPhone?

gud one tw33k.

Where do you drag and drop the video file into iTunes. What is the resolution set when converting the .avi ti .mp4

It should be max of 320*480 I guess.

This is what I use to Encode the video correctly for my Iphone, Ipod..whatever the hell your using

http://www.imtoo.com/mpeg-encoder.html

then the encoded video, I just drop into my libary (sp) not here to spell things, just here to solve questions.

and then enable the movie transfer in itunes and sync..

true... Itunes and Ipod suck...

PCs!!!! all the way.. but since they made every if ans and but's gadgets to work out there with Ipod..umm *cough* monopoly i guess we just have to deal with what we got here.

I have a Tom Tom in my car and for my tom tom to use its full functions.. it has to hook up with an Ipod and Ipod only. Doesn't that suck!

Unfortunately, I think you're stuck with iTunes, as far as loading videos and apps onto an iPhone or iTouch. There are other programs that can add music onto the other iPods, but that won't help you out. I'm afraid you are locked into Papa Steve's Playhouse

Hmm, why do people by the overpriced and limiting Apple products is beyond me...
I would rather get the more functional mp3/mp4 players from Cowon or Iriver.

Anyway, the videos can be converted to ipod/iphone format using Format Factory. Open the video there, select one of the ipone/ipod presets and convert the video (all the settings are applied automatically).

I agree, using FormatFactory is not only easy to use, it is also free, mind you, is your iPhone jailbroken?
If it is, then there are other ways to to play .wmv, .mpg and .avi files on it without having to convert to a file type that Apple are happy with.
