Is it possible to reinstall WMP12? Is there an .exe file somewhere i can download or some way to do it off the Windows disc?
    Hi Ephumuris,

There is no installer or method of reinstalling WMP12, You either have to use System Restore or a System File Check (sfc /scannow) to restore WMP12

    Steven
I just re-installed mine, or/either made windows take a second look and refresh the broken parts...

I have had a problem for some three or four days where the windows error reporter has been cropping up every ten seconds or so and in task manager and I had to disable one by one numerous processes before I finally looked and saw in event viewer that the error that had been repeated around 12000 times in the task manager was a Wmplayer.exe error.

Symptoms additionally to above were no playing of media files, opened Explorer windows in Explorer would "Jiggle" every ten seconds or so and the mouse pointer would "Circle.." like it was working on something, Google Chrome was refusing to launch, and Windows Explorer crashed more than once..

Looked around to see how I could fix this by maybe re-installing etc (Just like you could in XP etc..) but no such luck. I had of course tried rebooting and shutting down and was loathe to roll back or run sfc/ scannow unless as a final resort as I wasnt sure what the consequences would be with the OS and all my personalised settings.

Anyway I finally went to the control panel and disabled the media player in the programs and features panel then I turned off the media player there and it seemed to run a silent un-install that took maybe 2 minutes.

The feature asked me to reboot confirming that something must have been removed maybe? It certainly behaved as if it was more than a simple switch thrown..

So I did a reboot and then re-enabled the player again in the Windows features panel and there was no need to reboot this time but I am happy to report that Wmplayer has performed smoothly since.

Fixing (Enabling-rebooting-re-enabling..) Wmplayer removed all the above mentioned symptoms.

There are no more reports in Task Manager and the problem has been fixed.

I hope this helps someone. :)
