I took the rundll32.exe and the shimgvw.dll form windows xp 32 bit and windows xp 64 bit and Hex edited the name windows 7 gif viewer into it and made a registry key to have it open gifs with the files from xp , so the malwarebytes is probably thinking its an infected file because its modified from the original file from windows. Hope that helps
Sounds good to me, thanks for clearing that up.

This works like a charm for me, but to anyone who still has issues, there is an excellent standalone program Right Here On This Forum, and I'm keeping it around just in case this thing goes belly-up in future versions of Windows.

Edit: I wish I could remove that edit line.

It installed with no problems and GREAT to have someone like me that believes that the ORIGINAL Picture veiwer from XP was leaps and BOUNDS better over their new viewer which only has the feature to do really crappy editin of images :\

ANyway Here is my question. After installing and putting it as my default for my images, My image "icons" for my .gifs have changed to the default icon for "unknown apps" if you get what I mean.

For example: if you have a .jpg image you see an icon on your desktop which shows a picture as the icon, but for the .gifs now it shows that box with the 3 different filled in circles meaning "unknown object"

Anyway to fix this or change the icon?

IM on my cell. I can only guess and suggest a few things . First thus might help Thumbnail Previews - Enable or Disable And re enable thumb nails. Are you using a 32 or 64 bit of windows and if on 64 bit did you get the 64 bit version on my site. And have you restarted your PC since instilling. .. That's all I can think of know. I have to take a look at my PC later. I Don't think I have seen or heard of this problem before. I have a 32 bit PC and a 64 bit PC and have used the respective version of the programs and on my laptop . no problems on either of the three PCs. I Hope one if those suggestions Helps. Please let me know

What did it say. Did a box pop up with a red circle and give a run error. ..

OR did it say this program could not be verified from a reliable source are you sure you want to run this.
OR did you nit right click the run32.sol in the c drive and Change compatibility to XP sp 3 if your on a 32 bit OS. And if your on a 64 bit OS then Change to vista compatibility. Hope that helps in the mean time till you re upload the screen shots
