Windows 7: MS Photo Editor

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

>>This is interesting. For years I just took the 772 kb photoed.exe file and copied it to later desktops.

Well, this sounded simpler to me than the advice of RAS230, but when I tried it, I got an error message which said "No file format information can be found in the Registry". It would not open pictures. (I don't actually have MS Office on the computer.)

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Photoed executable patch

A patched version of the Photoed executable file has been posted online. The edited version supports larger image sizes, behaves better when minimized/restored, and handles high zoom factors in 32 bit displays for pixel editing. It is available at

Windows 7 Home 64bit

Hello! I believed the trick did not work in Windows 7 64bit, but...
I noticed (thanks to that the system changes the registry keys
for 32bit programs, and you must add after "HKLM\SOFTWARE", this: "\Wow6432Node",
in all keys of your "photoed.reg", for example:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Graphics Filters\Export\
Let's continue this never ending story...

Windows 7 Ultimate x64

I found windows installer files of MS Photo Editor v3.0.2.3 for both 32bit and 64bit versions for Windows 7. It seems someone took all the information provided in this thread and put it together into an installer.

It seems Filedropper wasn't the greatest of choices to host the files. Some people mentioned having to download an EXE to access the zip files which I DID NOT upload. Continue through the thread for safer download link posted by me.

Hello DStealth; I was so happy to see those installation download links, but it seems the software is no longer available. How or where may I get the MS Photo Editor install for Win 7 32bit?

Hi, D -

I downloaded the file, and my Norton declared it safe at the download; however, when I Double-clicked on the file and got a dialog box to approve the installer, Norton went nuts with an attack from "WinterSoftInstaller Activity 1." Norton contained it, and I deleted the file. Has anyone else reported a similar issue? I'd sure like to bring my Photo Editor back to life - I've used it since 1997, and it even worked fine for the last two years with my HP Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, but no longer works as of a couple of days ago. Thanks!
