No real deficit in external NIC cards from my experience,I would make sure it's a PCI-e card though.
I was going to get a internal nic card it well be a pcie card. Is one better or faster than theother
PCI is capable of 1064Mbps, so it is capable of fully utilizing a 10/100/1000 networks bandwidth, and IMO PCI slots are rarely used now days so why not free up a PCI-E slot. If you want top of the line there is the Killer M1 NIC but it can be expensive, otherwise whatever NIC that is on sale will work just as well as the built in one.
EDIT: In basic what I wanted to say is it doesn't matter what network card you have, your internet is the bottleneck, if you use home network file sharing or are a serious serious gamer then that is a different story
he is a gamer not a pro he plays bf3 a lot , so would a intel pci-e be good or the killer m1 nic be better I was looking at this

The Killer would be better, unlike ALL other NICs the Killer cards have their own processor that handles anything and everything network related, meaning it doesn't have to wait on the CPU to finish whatever it's doing so it can send/receive information, but another thing to note is unlike most NICs the Killer you do have to set up (not too much more than it asking what games you play, stuff you download, internet phone calls), still wanted to notify you of that though so the both of you aren't surprised. I was going to compare prices but oddly it seems I might be a bit dated in my info, I can't seem to find a (reputable) store selling the card. Which is odd to me it's not that old of a card. Will keep searching.
Well I cant find any killer nic cards at all . I have been looking at some utube videos most are saying its not that good.
I loved the one I had, it helped a ton in some online games I played, but it seems near everyone else hates it. So I dunno. All I can say is I bought it not expecting it to be plug and play, so when I got it I set up everything, while I think most others just expected it to plug in and work without any intervention. But as you said it seems near impossible to find online now, which is sad because I would've bought another when I built a new gaming desktop.
I would try one if I could find one . I well keep looking . For now i well just get a cheep one at frys
