    slow internet speed

i dont know if this is the right place to post this thread so if not, please transfer this one .. i upgraded my pc from xp to 7 a few days ago and i loved the transfer.. one of the few things i noticed however is that my internet speed has considerably slowed down.. i have a 1mb connection in my office and sometimes just loading my yahoo mail takes a long time ( approx a minute or two).. opening sites would just take too long and lately even downloading files takes forever (downloaded a 3mb file took 30mins).. i dont know if there is something wrong but i used a laptop running on xp on my network and it just runs fine.. the speed is constant.. anyone please give me their ipinion.. thanks!

Are you by chance using "homegroup" for networking in win 7? Homegroup sometimes on mixed networks causes slow downs and disconnects.

You can check it for yourself by setting up a new network connection using workgroup instead. If the problem goes away you can dis-able IPv6, and kill homegroup.

Let us know if you need help with this

Are you sure that you are not capped or have a speed limiter on the PC/Laptop, also have you tried Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test ?

my connection is a wired one.. i am connected to a network which allows me to connect on our printers and share files on other computers.. most of the computers on my network are still on xp though.. however, i addressed this problem to my technician friend and he assured me that we are on a 1mb connection each computer.. i dont know how he did that though.. on network and sharing sharing center, it says home network.. on speedtest.net, i have a 1.07mb connection and even my downloads through torrent verify that ( i have a download speed of 1mb max..

Thats mean that you are capped or have a speed limiter as Crispy said ..
Test your speed and if it nearer to the 1.00 MB thats fine but if it is a lot slower try to update your ethernet driver or google TCP booster.
