Windows 7: Network problem of my friend nokian73me

Just got a messege from nokian73me

" nokian73me arc. I cant connect to internet through win 7 laptop. Its giving error 771. Then i tried manually to start services from services.msc-its giving me error 1068. I tried to restore,but nothing happened. I have two internet connections and both are not working. I am typing from nokia mobile. Please post it for me and pm me. I want to avoid reinstall or format. "

I suggested him to run sfc /scannow . If you have some better solution for him, please guide us, I will PM him as he said .

Error 771 is not generally a computer error. what "services" did he try and start? what exactly happened when he restored? Scannow will tell him there is something wrong and probably not be ab le to fix it.

Does he have a working win 7 dvd from which he can do a repair install?

If that doesnt work he may be forced to re-install like it or not.

Still typing from mobile. what actually happened- i made successfull connection 9 hours ago,windows got a auto update (saw later), now, i am trying to connect internet and its getting aborted, i knew this one as happenned before. I tried ms kb articles-no result. I ran sfc scannow. Restarted,no result.

So please go for Repair Install as ken already advised . You will get your documents and settings in windows.old .

OK. I am writing from my Windows 7 laptop now. I have reinstalled it, activated it. Thanks so much to Arc and Ken. I can not rep Arc, which he deserves, (most probably he got a recent rep from me for GFX). I will ask only one member/ moderator to rep him behalf of me for the excellent online support he provided me.

You, Ken, Me or Arc know it very well, if you are badly stuck with error 771 and to fix it, getting error 1068, and the sfc / scannow (after making the log file to txt) gives a blank txt file, system restore does not work, (and you are using Ultimate 64 bit, you cant use the upgrade feature), failed effort of trying registry backup to restore, practically speaking you have nothing to do: the feeling of hollowness, or loneliness, what ever you name it, makes a person like very stressed.

At that moment Arc gave me so much support, I cant express it in words.
