    slow internet puzzle

    hi every1,

I had win 7(32 bit) ultimate installed and while downloading from sites like mediafire, megaupload I used to get transfer rate upto 300 Kb/sec (my broadband speed is 128b KBPS) then due to some problem I had to format my HD and install vista which came along with my PC. Now the problem is that using the same internet connection, I get about 70-80 Kb/sec from the same sites.

Could the slow transfer rate be due to vista? does it depend on OS also.
My PC is Q8300 2.5 GHz processor with 4 GB RAM and right now no other application is installed only McAfee security centre is running which was running on win 7 as well.

Pls help me as it is frustrating.

If you have not long re-installed your OS then it may just be a network problem such as a lot of people on the web causing it to be jammed.

Give it a while and it should sort itself out.

As for your question, is it the OS then the OS won't cause the problem and I doubt that it's your firewall, you can go into your firewall options and see if port 80 is enabled that may speed things up.

It may also just be the sites that are experiencing trouble, so why don't you go to www.speedtest.net and test your broadband speed.

Could it be due to the network configuration, I chose private network at the time of vista intallation.

By the way, internet speed test site gave a latency error

Google "how to disable half open TCP Connections limit in Vista" and follow the directions to do so and it should help your download speeds.

Contact your ISP and tell them that your connection is not working properly. If the speed checker is saying that your having problems with the latency then that may mean you have a fault on the actual broadband connection.

You should also download Malware bytes and give your PC a scan for malware, that may be causing your problems.

And just one more thing which may give you an idea of what's wrong. Re start your PC and when it boot's up again keep pressing the F8 button, this will take you into safe mode. Choose safe mode with networking then see what speeds your getting. If they go back to normal then it's being caused by something installed on your PC.

PS. Did you check to see if port 80 was open in your firewall?
