    Pls Help- Internet Download Issue

I have tried reading other threads and i couldn't find the same problem or a solution that has worked. I have a dell studio 17 running windows 7, a linksys wrt610n version 2 running the latest firmware, and an intel centrino advanced n 6200 network card.

I ran an internet speedtest (speedtest.net) right before i posted this and it had me at 2Mbps upload and download. However, when i actually attempt to download something, i am more likely to pulling bytes per second than even Kb. For instance, it took me almost 10 minutes to download firefox. I am able to open simple internet pages without much issue (slow but not unreasonable) however streaming content (i watch baseball online MLB.com) is out of the question.

I should also point out that using my work computer running windows XP i am not having this issue.

Thanks in advance for your help.

What is your speed if you use a wired connection?? Are you using Workgroup, or Homegroup??

I haven't tried direct plugging into my internet (i was told it required a router when they installed it in my condo- i would have no idea why that would be and i could try to it anyway?). I am currently using a homegroup, but i tried using work network without any effect.

Lets eliminate any problems with software slowing down your connection (it can happen sometimes) .. Enter msconfig/startup and disable all.. reboot and test your connection... If your speed increases, then you know one of your startup programs is to blame.. Let us know the results..

I'm not sure its perfect, but it's significantly better. Since this is a new dell computer (i haven't loaded anything onto it) it shouldn't be too hard to narrow it down from here. Thank you!!

Great!! Now just add the startup programs one by one until you find the culprit
