Windows 7: Can't see NAS or XP machines on Network (64 bit RC)

22 Jun 2009   #11

Windows 7 Ultimate, Signature Edition 64bit

After much swearing and troubleshooting I have had very limited success. Both XP machines can see eachother on the local network and access shared content.
The netbook XP can navigate (through local address) to the Win7 machine and access it's shared content, but it can not see the Win7 machine on the network. The Win7 machine sees neither of the XP machines on the network but can navigate to each of them by name and access shared content.
And finally, the XP media center machine (which I have connected to my living room TV) cannot see or access any of the shared data on my Win7 machine.

The problem is that my 2TB drive with all my media is on my Win7 machine. So in order to watch something on the TV I have to go into my office and push it onto the media center PC. That is totally unacceptable.

Also, I still have no access to my router's web page. Access through the netbook and media center is fine but not the Win7 machine.

Has anyone had trouble connecting (over network) a 64 bit Win7 machine with an older copy of XP (MCE)??
Maybe I just need to reset my user account privileges.

Simply put: My network's machines are not responding to ping that originate from outside my network. This is very bad... since I am running a private server that, nevertheless, needs to be seen from outside the network to be useful. Have created rule to allow ICMP in (and out) (using Win7...

Windows 7 machines can't get network but XP can?
I've recently installed some windows 7 machines on our network and they don't seem to be getting valid network configs.
