    Internet connection unknown and public??

    Hello,

Last night I tried to connect my laptop to the internet, but I wasn't able to...

I tried on another computer and that one was able to connect to the internet, as was my iPhone...this would logically point out the problem lies with my laptop...

My internet connection is recognised by my laptop as an unknown and public internet connection, and I can't access the internet...

When I search for solutions, windows says the standard gateway is offline and it can't be solved...?

    Help???

if any definitions aren't translated well, I'm sorry(I use a dutch pc)

This sounds like the standard unidentified network problem which is caused by a rogue default gateway of 0.0.0.0. which sometimes happens when outdated hardware is being used. The link below shows you how to fix that problem.

This link shows you how to change the network location.

Guten Tag Robert, are you attempting to connect at home? Are you using a hard connect router?

Have you tried a Winsock repair?

Open command prompt, right click and run as Administrator. Type or copy/paste

    netsh winsock reset

Press enter. Now reboot and see if you can connect.

Thanks for posting the screen shot of your ipconfig.

You will definately want to update the firmware on your Thompson ST580 modem-router to be compatible with Windows 7.

Thats an older router so most likely it's not going to work unless you can get that firmware to work for you. I'm not sure what the problem might be. Usually if you point the wizard to the .bin file it will pick it up and install it.
