Windows 7: Switching between WLAN and LAN

I am using Windows 7 on my laptop. In my home i have both WLAN and LAN connectivity. Initially most of the time i connect to WLAN, but when i want to copy a folder or download some thing i switch to Wired LAN.

The problem is when ever i switch from WLAN to LAN..and switch off the Wireless, the internet takes some time to be active from LAN. and once its active, i can browse for like 5 mins until again it becomes inactive and this process repeats again and again.

During the whole above scenario, if i simulate XP on Vmware,i am able to browse easily(in brigde mode) while on Windows 7 there is no Internet Connectivity. One more thing is that P2P (torrents)works fine all the way even when browser internet is not working.



I want to know if there is any tool/service that can be restarted to over come the issue? i get two different IP's from DHCP for WLAN and LAN. I have to restart the laptop to overcome the issue :S

With my laptop, if I'm connected with the wireless as soon as I plug in the wired connection it takes over as the internet connection and uses wired only, no need to disable the wireless connection for me anyway. As soon as I unplug the wired connection the wireless connection works again without me having to do anything.

When I do this, in the network and sharing center it says multiple networks and shows both connections but the wired one takes over the connection automatically.

So my advice would be to not bother switching off the wireless because as soon as you plug in the wired connection Windows 7 should be using it and when you unplug the wire the wireless should be working.

@0ss279 in your post, you asked about a tool to assist with your restarting the service . . . if I am not mistaken the service you are referring to is DHCP and yes there is a tool that will assist with this:

start > run > cmd

type:

ipconfig /release
then
ipconfig /renew

this will allow you to obtain an ip address after you disconnect or reconnect WLAN/LAN rather than reboot ....of course you can reboot and wait for the router to assign an ip address . . . but why do that when you can speed things up
