    New Search Site Goes Live

    Wolfram search engine goes live

Wolfram Alpha uses natural language processing to understand queries

A search engine hailed as a significant rival to web giant Google has gone live to the public.
Wolfram Alpha is called a computation knowledge engine rather than a search engine and wants to change the way people use online data.
It aims to give people direct answers to queries rather than send them to other sites where they may find what they are seeking.
The system is the brainchild of British-born physicist Stephen Wolfram.
Wolfram Alpha was unveiled in late April and since then has been publicly demonstrated and some people have had a chance to run queries through it.

Thanks for that Barman58, It is good ,I asked it "What is the meaning of life" and it told me the correct answer
    was 42, which is correct.

But seriously, it is a very good program, and I have added it to my Favourites.
To be used a lot in the future.

    Thanks Nigel,

It is different. Definitely not a search engine, but interesting.

Not sure what to make of it so far, mostly I get "Wolfram|Alpha isn't sure what to do with your input"...

Personally, will see what happens with this one, doesn't look like a Google killer to me ATM. The thing is that there was a time when no one had heard of Google so you never know.
As a concept I think it's more like Ask.Com than Google
