Remote Desktop Connection Doesn't Work!!!! HELP!!!

Hello everyone. I am having an issue getting my laptop (has Windows 7 Home Premium) to connect to my desktop work computer (has Windows 7 Professional) using RDC. I keep getting the following message: "The Local Security Authority cannot be contacted". I have searched the forum and Google and can't find a solution.

I have done the basic steps of configuring both of the computer's firewall (making an exception for RDC) and have checked the "Allow remote desktop connection" in the System Properties---->Remote tab. What else needs to be done?

The wording is a bit confusing and they seem to dance around the issue somewhat. Home Premium can't host an RDC connection but it can connect to either a Windows Ultimate or Windows Professional or Windows Enterprize hosting RDC. There is no host settings in Home Premium.

Which editions of Windows 7 include Remote Desktop Connection?

All editions of Windows 7 include Remote Desktop Connection.
  • You can use Remote Desktop to initiate a connection from any edition of Windows 7.
  • You can connect to computers running Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, or Windows 7 Enterprise.
  • You can't use Remote Desktop Connection to connect to computers running Windows 7 Starter, Windows 7 Home Basic, or Windows 7 Home Premium.
This isn't something that they advertise but this Technet thread talks about it.

But you can do this using Team Viewer which is free.

Or LogMeIn works for this also.

Thank you for the reply. I understand that a Windows 7 Home Premium computer can't host. I'm trying to remotely connect to my work desktop computer (host-has Windows 7 Professional) using my laptop (has Windows 7 Home Premium). I think that you misunderstood my post. I should of been more specific.

Get rid of Remote Desktop!

TeamViewer is by far the best RDC out there no questions asked. LogMeIn is another one people will recommend, but I tried that and it did connect, but the screen clarity was terrible. TeamViewer is easy to connect, install, setup, and I am currently 400 miles away and it works great without a problem. There is a lot of options to chose from; you can record your sessions, do file transfers, and even log in and off it. You can also reboot and reboot in to safe mode if needed. Excellent program!!! Let me know if you have any questions.

You have an ID and password and you can log in from anywhere at anytime.

Your statement led me to believe you were going from the HP machine to the Win 7 pro machine.

I wasn't sure which way you were going with that but I did post links to team viewer and LogMein which also work for this.

Other than that I can post the tutorial on this in case you missed a step.
