    internet issues

I'm having nothing but trouble using win7 64bit for internet connectivity. I currently have a D-link DIR-615 router (supports 802.11n/g/b), and a Realtek 8185 adapter in the PC (802.11g/b).

I have played around with different setting configurations for hours, as well as spoken to the incomprehensible reps in the suburbs of anywhere, India - to no avail.

Now, I have a second computer running windows xp plugged directly into the router, and it works fine; which leads me to believe the issue lies with either windows 7 or my network adapter. Perhaps I need a 802.11n adapter? Or should I simply switch back to an 802.11g router?

Does anyone have any experience with an issue like this on this OS? If so, any advice will be greatly appreciated!

The first thing to look at is drivers. Go to the Realtek website and download the latest 64-bit driver for your card. Uninstall the old one from within device manager, I repeat uninstall the old one, for a third time, uninstall the old one (sorry but most people skip this step and argue for 5 hours before finally doing it), then install the new driver. Is there any change?

If your router supports g and your nic supports g, there shouldn't be any problems.
    - when you type in the ip address: 192.168.0.1 do you see the log on for the router?
    - when looking at the device manager, does is show the nic correctly?
    - if yes and yes, can you ping an ip address? if no, try at the command prompt ipconfig /renew
Let me know what you find out and we will go from there!

Realtek 8185 Extensible 802.11b/g Wireless Device
    Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller

When I go to the network and sharing center and click on adapter properties it tells me info. for the 8185. Did I configure something wrong?

Lemur, I can log into the router and the device manager shows both devices. I tried to ipconfig /renew and then ipconfig /refresh... no luck.

Okay, if you can log into the router, then your nic is working. So far, so good. Did you look at the device manager to ensure the nic looks okay?

Yep, I checked the device manager. I have those 2 devices stated above under the 'Network adapters' tab

For the IP setting, make sure IP and DNS are obtained automatically

And we want the IP settings for the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller.
