My Windows 7 suddenly can't connect

I was just playing an online game and then my computer unexpectedly started to shut itself down to reboot (and install some updates). As soon as I booted back up, my internet connection wasn't working anymore. Other computers in my network are fine, so it's just my computer. I even tried directly connecting to my cable modem. No go. Windows 7 doesn't even see a problem, it shows me as connected: "Currently Connected to: Network, Internet Access" and making it run the connection problems diagnostic shows nothing.

So everything looks like it works, but when I try to connect to the internet using two different browsers and an instant messaging program, I get nothing. Could it be a virus that rebooted me and is now stopping me from getting online? Thanks in advance.

Don't have one... I just recently installed Windows 7 on a fresh PC too, I've only been on for 2-3 days? Would Restoring Windows 7 by using the DVD help?
