crossover issues

ok i am new to Windows 7. i just did a straight up install. reformatted and installed (was using XP Ultimate before). here is the issue. i have an xbox1 (not the 360) that is softmodded with XBMC (Xbox Media Center). when i had xp i had it connected via a crossover cable from my lone ethernet port to my xbox. my pci wireless card handled the net connection. with 7 i cannot get it to connect, or find it with ftp. as well i have plugged a router in to the crossover cable before, and then plugged a laptop into the router. the laptop was able to get online easily. anyone have any idea what is going on? i have determined it is not the cord. as well my ethernet card says that it has no ipv4 and ipv6 connectivity. i want to be able to get this working because i used to access shared folders from the pc via the xbox. watched movies in bed and such.
