Windows 7 shares stop working

Every so often, for no reason, my shares will stop working on my machine. I have 2-3-4 shares going on at once, and the only way to alleviate the problem, for a few days, is to reboot.

Anyone have any ideas how I can fix this? Or start troubleshooting.

browsing PC name OR IP does not work after a given amount of time - 24-72 hours.

Are all these machines Windows 7? If so are you using Homegroups? There is a registry setting that has en effect on this.

On my windows 7 machine I used regedit to increase the size of a parameter:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\LanmanServer\Parameters

the parameter was Size - and value was set at 1 . I changed the value to 3 .

We are all on a domain.

They are XP, OR Windows 7 PRO machines.

And the other question I asked about if you are using Homegroups or not? You should be using a Workgroup for a mixed Op system network as Homegroups is only made to work with Windows 7 machines.

What do you mean homegroup? We're all on a corporate domain.

At any rate the above registry adjustment is supposed to fix this problem.

Although waking up a 6yo thread, I must post my experience and what helped me:
I have physical and virtual network cards on the machine (the virtual is for a VM).
I found out that having multiple network cards can confuse Windows 7 file sharing, in a way that can cause it to stop working.
For me, disabling the virtual network card (and leaving only the physical) did the trick.
