    Wifi hotspot login problem

Apologies if this has already been answered but I have searched the forum to no avail...

OK, so the problem is when I try to log on to a wifi hotspot- one where the network itself is unsecure but when you open your browser you are redirected to a hotspot login page with username & password required. I use this system to access my wifi at my flat (Ozonebe.net) but also in cafes etc.

It has happened twice now on 2 different networks (once on my flat network, once in a cafe) that it will connect to the network no problem but then the little cloud saying "Additional login information may be required" will not appear and then when I open my browser, it does not redirect me to the login page. When I then try to type in the URL by hand, it still won't load. Both times that it has happened, it has been when I have tried to get onto the same network a few hours or so after connecting to it for the 1st time. In other words, I will have connected to it with no problems before & it's only on subsequent use that it fails to load the login page.

For one of the networks it happened with (in a cafe), when I then came back a few days later to use the internet, it worked! It loaded the login page no problem. But then I restarted my computer while still in the cafe & when I tried to reconnect after doing that, lo & behold, it wouldn't load the login page.

Help would be greatly appreciated, especially because one of the hotspots it happens with is the one I use for my main internet connection in my flat.

    Thanks in advance! :)

I tried that but it didn't work.

Could it maybe to do with DNS pre-fetching for my browser (Google chrome)? But that wouldn't explain why the 'additional logon' balloon doesn't pop up when I log onto a network. Which suggests it's not a browser problem, right?

Anyone with a clue on that?
I have the exact same problem with Windows 7, it worked just once... and then nothing.
I tried with Internet Explorer, FireFox, Chrome, same thing...
It works well from my phone (Windows Phone 7.5).

Note : I'm trying to connect to a "Free Wifi" hotspot, which is provided by the french ISP called "Free", and which uses an HTML authentication with redirection.

Any idea would be very appreciated!

    Cheers!

    Found it out

just forget the hotspot and when it asks for it again make sure you put it as a personal or work network. On windows 7 it blocks public networks.

Thanks, much. This problem had been driving me crazy.

But bear in mind that changing to "Home" or "Work" status makes your device discoverable to anyone else on the network.
