    wifi from my laptop?

I'm in a hotel room that offers "wired" internet service.

I'm trying Connectify on my Win7 machine.

I'm trying to use it with my itouch.

My touch sees the wifi but has an ip address of 169.........

My computer sees the touch on Connectivity. Should this work?

    Hi thewolf,

Someone correct me if i am wrong but if your IP Address starts with 169.XX.XX.XX you have an invalid IP Address and will not be able to access the Internet.

You will need to speak with the hotel if you can't connect, they will know more about their network and help resolve it.

Yes, IP addresses beginning 169.XXX.XXX.XXX tell you that an IP address that will connect you with the Internet has not been assigned.

    @thewolf,

The problem is that I'm fine with their service, wired Internet. It's just that I'm trying to use my touch with "Connectify" Connectify - Turn your Windows 7 laptop into a Wi-Fi Hotspot that I just installed.

    Sorry, I Misunderstood,

Try temporarily disabling your firewall and see if it connects then??

I have just tested with my Nokia E71 and it wouldn't connect to the internet while my Firewall was on but as soon as i switched it off and connected again it was fine.

If that works then what firewall are you using?

I'm using Microsoft Essentials. And that didn't see to help.

I did have this happen once before when I was at a friend's house and it got the "169.......address. I reset his wireless and then when I got back to the house after a short outing, it worked and had the correct IP address.

That was using itouch with his wireless router.

That was it. With my firewall off all is well. How can I do booth. Not crazy about being in the hotel with no firewall. I'll look for "exceptions".

You are right, you don't want to leave the firewall off, what firewall are you using?
