USB network connection disconnecting NIC

Let me apologize in advance if this has been asked and answered, I looked and couldn't find an answer.
I have been running 2 network connections, work network to server, wired, and a wireless connection through USB port to access the internet on all XP machines.
We now have a Windows 7 box, trying to do the exact same connections.
The wired connection works fine but cuts out whenever the USB connection is made. The USB connection works whether the wired connection is connected or not.
Is there some kind of special setting that needs to be set up in 7? Is this maybe an ICS issue?

Here is some more info.
The wireless adapter is a Netgear WG111 v3 attached to a Netgear WGR614 v10.
The PC is an HP p6516f running Windows 7 Home Premium.
The internal NIC card works fine untill I hook up the wireless adapter, then it cuts out but remains active as far as ipconfig /all shows?
Any ideas oh tech gurus?

I don't understand, ISP? It is configured the exact same as the working XP machines.
Just as a test, I brought in my laptop, running XP pro and the same connections worked with no problems.

Windows 7 doesn't like using two connections at once, one or the other will be choosen by Windows 7 but not both at once. In general the wired connection takes over if you were using wireless. In your situation the USB connection is used instead of eithernet.

Cisco has some software you can use through it's routers for a two connection set up but I havn't used it yet.

I found a working fix for this problem on another forum.
In order to get both connections to work together you have to reset the auto matrix in network settings.
Go into network device settings, advanced, change auto matrix to manual, set the USB or secondary connection device to a higher number than the onboard NIC, leave setup, then go back and change back to auto. You need to change both connections.
This was explained in the other forum as the primary NIC was chosen as the default or active card whenever it was chosen by having a matrix number higher than the external or secondary NIC. Since the onboard NIC will work regardless because it is considered to be the default by the system, setting the secondary connection with a higher Matrix will not disconnect it.
I have tried this on multiple Windows 7 boxes and it works!
