Sharing a Printer on a Network

    Hi Guys,

I'm having difficulties hooking up my printer to our home network. I've never had problems with this before, so it must be something to do with the computer I currently have it hooked up to.

Based on my apartment setup, its not convenient to have the printer (hp laserjet 1020) hooked up to my pc, so i have it hooked up to my girlfriend's laptop in the hall. We are both running Windows 7, I have enabled sharing of printers, as well as shared the specific device. We are both on the same homegroup as far as I can tell, yet i still can't find the printer. I suspect her computer is on a school domain, but I cant be sure, and this may be the problem. Anyone have ideas?

    Thanks

    df

You need to see what network and domain her PC is on and see if the printer is on it as well when her laptop is running for you to see it, the shares must be done while it is attached to your network. If this is impossible you might want to invest in a network print device which will attach to the router and allow you to share it that way w/o her laptop or your PC being on for either of you to use it.
