High Speed Connection - Low Speed Download?

I have a 2Mb/s connection. At least that is what online speed test shows. But why are my downloads much lower? I mean less than 1Mb/s

Your connection is 2 megabits per second I assume....that comes out to about 256KB/sec in a browser.

Are you saying you only get 128KB/sec in your browser?

Yes, and lower. Just does not make sense.
    Is something not configured right?

Well, one thing that matters is where the download is coming from in location to you. When you have latency on the line, your download speeds will never be as fast as they could be. For example, even if you had a dedicated 10mbps pipe to Europe from the US, at 200ms latency...the most you will get is 2.09mbps across that line. So, you only get 1/5 of your total speed simply due to distance.

This may not help, but have you tried unplugging your modem/router/both and plugging them back in? I have that problem on occasion mainly because of faulty hardware, but I would give that a shot.

Also, you could go to speedtest.net and test it with a server located near you.
