Remote Desktop problems with Windows 7

I am trying to remote desktop into a remote host with Windows Professional. I have setup allow remote access to the remote host and opened port # 3389 on the host router. However, when I use the open port tool canyouseeme.org I receive "connection timeouts". When I attempt remote desktop connections it
    fails as wells.

The remote host is brand new and I went ahead and uninstalled McAfee Anit-virus
to rule out the possibility that it was blocking access.

Update, I am able to login to the remote host using the program "logmein" but I suspect that logmein uses a different protocol e.g. https than RDC. Anyone have any suggestions to address the connection timeout issues that I am experiencing with RDC.

    Thanks in advance!!!

When you opened the port on the router did you assign the XP host machine a static IP address ?
try restarting the router after you placed the port open ?

With the default gateway as a guide (router address), I assigned an IP address (first 3 digits the same as the router address) for the the remote host with the default gateway set to the router address. I then went to the router and open port 3389 for the IP address I created above.

I am still at a loss as to the reason I am unable to remote desktop into the remote host. These are the steps I followed:

    1. Acquire IPv4 Default Gateway (router's IP address) of host
    2. Change IP address of host to the first 3 digit of router IP address followed by a unique number in the fourth box.
    3. Assigned the router IP address to the Default Gateway and Preferred DNS server
    4. Open RDP for IP address created in step #2
    5. Acquired IP address from "Whatismyip.com"

Attempted to remote desktop into IP address in step #5 host configured in the steps above and I consistently receive connection timeout.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

If you are willing to try something different, try TeamViewer.
A lot of us Gurus here at SevenForums use it daily.

    My instruction here : TeamViewer

    RDC issues

I am able to access the remote host with "LogMeIn" which sounds much like TeamViewer. What I don't understand is that I am unable to access the remote host using RDC. The funny thing is that I am able to access the local host from the remote host.

Anyone have any suggestions on what I should review on the host and router of the remote host?
