Home gigabit LAN speed problem

Hi guys,

I have 3 Win7 PC's in a network connected with some D-Link gigabit router and all PC's have gigabit ethernet cards. They all have IP addresses entered and subnet masks.

The speed before was great, around 50MB/s. Now one of the PC's has a slower speed. It's now only around 10MB/s when copying from or to that PC while the other two PC's have a 50MB/s.

I did not touch anything so not sure whats the problem with this PC. I've tried to reinstall the ethernet card driver, unplug and plug the network cable and restart the router but nothing seems to be helping.

Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

Thanks

Hi Turbostream,

Network speed may be affected with programs installed in your machine. These programs may include what you really installed and other may be programs you didn't like spywares and adwares.

To really know if it is caused by a program, you can reboot your system to safe mode with networking and see the transfer speed if there would be any difference.

Other things you can do is update the NIC drivers and try swapping ethernet cables.

Thank you very much!

Okay, thanks. I tried to update the drivers but it says up to date. Also for the spywara, I doubt I have any. Tried in safe mode but still the same 10MB/s speed.

BTW, you might want to find out if the manufacturer of your NIC has utilities to test the hardware. It would be nice to run the test to ensure that your HW is not the issue here.

Thanks!

I am not sure what you mean. I have integrated ethernet on the GA-EP43-UD3L motherboard.

Google did not help me at all If anyone has some ideas, please let me know.

Thanks

Edit

If it could help anyone, I reinstalled a couple of times the LAN driver and changed Speed & Duplex to 1Gbps Full Duplex and that fixed it. My card shows now as 1Gbps with speeds around 40 MB/s.
