network drive connect fail with computer name but success using ip

I have 2 work site, 1 at head office, 1 at site office

when i am in head office, everything is fine

however, when i am at site office, the network drive can't connected by using already mapped drive (which is using the computer name) and i try again using computer name to me via explorer -> fail again; lastly, i use ip to map the network drive and it works....

what's the problem with this scene....

Could be a dns issue. This is a mapped drive to your head office, correct? If yes, how are you connecting to your server?

You can use VPN to connect to your main office, then the \\servername should work. Otherwise, you would have to use the ip address.

You may need to relax the Security settings on the User folder of the drive.

I can connect to servers on my active directory by using \\servername. But when you are off the directory, or network, it won't recognize the server name. That's why you are using the ip address.

If I tried to access my server \\Athena, there are hundreds of servers out there names Athena.

That's why you have to use VPN or the ip address.
