Network share all of the sudden asks for username and password???

I have 2 windows 7 machines and xbox 360. I use xbox to watch movies or stream music from my computer. Everything worked fine untill out of the blue my windows machine started to ask for a username a password to see it. I cant even see the shared folders on the computer anymore. I have checked my other computer, it has the same thing, asks for username and password.

I have looked at my settings in advanced sharing settings:
on: network discovery
on: file and print sharing
off -> on: public folder sharing(thought that would fix the issue)
off: password protected sharing.

I am not part of any home group.

I have googled around and all what I found was that there has to be something to do with guest account, so they said remove the guest password, which i did.
Then someone else said disable guest account and system management, which I did, but there is no change.

I have a shared folder that I need to access without a username or password from anywhere on my network from any mashine. It has permission for everyone to be able to access it. And it did work untill all of the sudden windows 7 computer started to ask for username and password.

Is there anyways to fix that? Thank you!

There are about ten different things that can cause this problem to occur.

The first thing that comes to mind is if the time/date settings are correct and sync on your machines. The link below might help you track down the problem.

the link below talk about disabling guest account which I did(it is mentionned in the explantion above). Could not find anything related to date and time! Allthough i have checked the date and time and they are right.

I beg to differ

Another strange solution. I have been working at this problem for hours before I noticed my PC clock was over 4 years behind once I corrected the time. The shares were accessible.

There are more solutions there than just messing with the guest account password. I suggest you spend a bit more time reading.

Hi,

If you meant to read all of the comments in there, I did. I have tried everything except I cant figure out the following:

c) Changed the Network Security default as Scooby Doo suggested.
“On the Windows 7 machine, in the Group Policy Editor, in the Computer ConfigurationWindows SettingsSecurity SettingsLocal PoliciesSecurity Options folder, set the “Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level” value to “Send LM & NTLM – use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated”.

I dont get the whole article.

update:

after searching this forum for few hours I found the following link which fixed the issue between windows machines:
File sharing password problem with XP - solved for me

But I cannot connect from my linux machine as it is still asking for username and password.

update2:

I have figured out what was the main cause of the issue.
from the following souce Windows 7 smb access woes - XBMC Community Forum I found out that is was windows live package that cause the issue, and I remeber installing windows live 2011 recently. So I took off everething related to windows live and guess what, my network and working for both windows and linux.
