Homegroup not responding?

Hi all,

My PC (Windows 7 Ultimate) is not responding when I try and make any changes to Windows Homegroup.

Nothing happens when I click on "View or print the homegroup password"

If I attempt to change the password I always get the message "Windows cannot set up a homegroup on this computer"

If I click on "leave the homegroup" I get the message "Windows could't remove your computer from the homegroup"

I have read a few of the threads when googling Homegroup problems, I tried the deleting of all within the peerNetworking folder, and checked services but still no joy.

Anyone have any idea?

Have tried all that, empty Peernetworking folder, stopping Homegroup provider.

When I try to leave homegroup the HG provider starts again. Can't change or view password either.

This is really doing my head in as I have two HTPC's which I want to join to this computers homegroup.

That usually works for this problem. Make sure that the time/date settings are in sync on your machines.

Try going down the list on this Homegroup trouble shooter.

Going through the guide,

Clocks are not the issue, and I want to reset this PC as the main Homegroup or at least see the password. Once I have re-set this I can then add the other two. This used to work in a homegroup last year, but the HTPC it was connected to required a new Windows install after the old trail of Windows 7 ran out, I only did that this year after a play with Linux.

In services I cannot see Peer Network Grouping, or Homegroup Listener?

Not that they should make any difference to leaving a Homegroup, or changing a password or simply viewing my password?

I still cannot change my password as it tells me "Windows cannot set up a homegroup on this computer".

Nothing happens when I click on "View or print the homegroup password" no box, no response.

When I click on "leave the homegroup" I still get this reply "Windows couldn't remove your computer from the homegroup" which seems to conflict with above.

It seems I can select which libraries I want to share with the homegroup I am neither part of or not?

My other two PC's have windows 7 and can be set up and removed from homegroups and I have functional control, but they don't see this PC, nor does this PC see them as anything other than media players? IE I click on the PC icon within my network and Windows Media Player pops up to be configured?

In that case I would say that you are missing some system files from the problem PC because those services should be on the list.

Try running sfc /scannow at your command prompt and see if it finds any corrupted or missing system files.

How do I run a console session as an administrator? Oops right click sorted.

Will get back later once this has run.

OK no issue here.

If those services aren't there then Homegroups won't work. I'm not sure where they might have gone too.
