Connected to the internet, but IE won't connect

Okay, this happened last night. I was on youtube and it was fullscreen, so without me knowing, in the background it was asking if I wanted to postpone an update, of course I didnt know this was happening so it updated itself. The screen went black and froze. I couldnt turn it off or anything. So I just took out the battery and turned it back on. As it was re-booting it was setting up an update. So i was like crap.. remembering how everything always says dont turn off the power when updating etc. And I logged on, connected to the internet just fine. But now IE won't connect. But when I open IE and if I click the little mail button to check my email. That still works! So it proves I AM connected. but IE wont for some reason. Anyone know of anyway to fix this problem?

Control Panel/Internet Options/Connections tab/LAN settings

See if Proxy server is checked. If so, uncheck it. Then scan for malware using malwarebytes.
