Homegroup died after router upgrade

I'm sure this has been asked before but I can't find a solution in the searches I've done.

What I did was upgraded my router. I had a Belkin B/G router and upgraded to a new Belkin N router. I configured the router the same as my previous router. SSID and key and everything so I wouldn't have to make any changes on my laptop. I know it's identical because I took screen shots of the previous router setup pages and made the new router identical in the setup.

Now when I try and access the home group it's broken. I can't view my other computer from my laptop but my desktop can see this laptop fine and retrieve files through the homegroup. I've run the troubleshooter with no success. I've left the home group with each computer, rebooted them and made a new homegroup, and i'm back to the same place. I turned off the router firewall and the desktop firewall and still cannot see it from this laptop. I called Belkin and of course they say it's a windows issues, nothing wrong with their router.

So what else can I try to get this homegroup working both ways again?

oh, my laptop is running W7 64bit Home Premium and the desktop is running W7 32bit Ultimate.

Which A/V software do you have installed on those machines?

Have you run the trouble shooter on all the machines?
And are you experiencing any other network problems?
Could be the router firewall is the cause.

I'm using Norton 360 on the desktop. I've tried with the firewall off and on and it fails both ways. I had to send the laptop in for repairs a few weeks ago and haven't put any AV software on it yet. But it could still use the homegroup after that until the router change.

No other network problems either. I can view the shared folders I created on the desktop and laptop both ways.

I just can't see the desktop in the homegroup from the laptop. When I recreated the homegroup I left the homegroup on both machines, turned the laptop off, rebooted the desktop and created a homegroup with a different password. Then I turned the laptop on, got the message in the homegroup screen that I had been invited by my desktop. I enter the password, it says I joined the homegroup. I then open Computer from the start menu, click the homegroup link on the left and it says I'm not part of any homegroup. So I reboot the laptop and check it again and I'm still not part of any homegroup. The desktop can see the laptop on the homegroup link and pull files from it though.

It's got me stumped. The only thing that was changed was the router. And the only screens I changed anything in on those was the virtual servers to open ports for a game update program, and wireless SSID and network key. All the other screens were default like the previous router. I've even tried turning the router firewall off and turning off protected mode, but that didn't help anything either.

The troubleshooter didn't find any problems on both systems. Just ran them again to make sure. I'll try that fixit center link and see what that does after work tonight.

Some things in there I forgot about, like IPV6. Nice one.

those tips didn't work either. Just for fun I plugged everything back into the old router and my homegroup works just fine. I swapped the new router back in and can't access the desktop from the laptop again. I even reset the defaults on the new router in case i goofed on a setting and still have the same problem. Not sure what to do now.

I kind of have a similar issue. Just upgraded to a new router but some of my homegroup seems to be working some doesn't.

I have 3 Computers

2 Wired and 1 Wireless

The 2 Wired can talk and share files fine.

However only 1 of the Wired PC's can talk to the Wireless PC ( Other Wired works fine ). It says I dont have permission to access the wireless PC from the Wired PC. But the Wireless PC can access shares and BOTH Wired PCs fine.

I just keep getting a permission error. Its been driving me nuts.

I looked under sessions and the PC that cant connect is connecting as a Guest. Where the other Wired PC can connect fine and connects as a HomeGroupUser$.

All of them are in the same HomeGroup and everything. What Router did you get by chance?

I got the Belkin Surf Wireless F7D2036 i think is the model number. There's 2 different models, mines the lower number of the 2. I love the speed but i'm really tempted to go back to the B/G router I was using to use the homegroup. I've got it set now so the folders are shared and I can transfer files that way.

I had the same problem and thought it was Norton 360 V4, it wasn't. Can you ping the other computer?

What I ended up doing was deleting the home group on both systems and the recreated them, that fixed the problem
