Remote Desktop Connection: home network versus internet

So I got sick of my old VNC program not connecting outside of my home network and decided to figure out this whole RDC thing. Got it all set up, works great...inside my home network! If I try to use my external IP (or rather the external IP of my router) to connect to my desktop from my laptop it gives me the standard: "RD cannot connect to the remote computer...blah blah blah" I have port 3389 opened on my Windows Firewall (obviously, as it was done for me), and on my router. I cannot for the life of me figure out why this wont work. Is it perhaps because I'm trying to RDC to my desktop using the external address, from inside the network? Because that's the only idea I can come up with. Ideas? Suggestions?

Yep ditch RDP and try team viewer. works, easy to use, bulletproof, and free.

Alrighty, Teamviewer it is. Already have it up and running, works beautifully. One question though, is there a way to stream the audio from the computer I'm watching? It isn't a necessity but it'd be nice if I could.
